A 64 player local multiplayer mayhem game.
Kachiku 64 is a 64 player local multiplayer game made with Unity. It was made as a cohort project (34 people) during the final year of my undergrad degree. The game is a multiplayer mayhem game where everyone fights to be the last character standing.
The game makes use of a lot old school game mechanics in a fun and interesting way. My role in this project was to implement a system which allowed players to easily join and control a character using their phone. We did not want this to be app based as it wouldn't be as easy to join so we made use of a locally hosted website which acts as a controller when someone connects to it.
This project was overall a success and was really enjoyable to learn new technologies and work with such a large amount of people. We had split the 34 developers into 6 teams where each team had a tech lead and a design lead. The leads were responsible for communicating with other teams about how certain mechanics and features were to be implemented to prevent conflicts.
